Union County Alumni Chapter of UAPB/AM&N to meet Saturday The Union County Alumni Chapter of UAPB/AM&N will hold it’s quarterly meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday. The meeting will be held at Douglas Chapel Baptist Church, 969 Smackover Highway, El Dorado. El Dorado NAACP to meet Monday The El Dorado Branch of the NAACP will hold its regularly monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Community Room of Simmons First Bank on the second floor. The special guest will be staff from the El Dorado city office of code enforcement and possibly Mayor Frank Hash.

Fire damages Union County Jail

The Union County Jail was forced to evacuate all of their inmates to the recreation yard for a brief period Wednesday night after an electrical fire erupted in the kitchen.

RSVP Dance featuring Slik Nickel to be held Friday The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will hold a RSVP Dance for ages 55 and older from 7-10 p.m. Friday at Champagnolle Landing Senior Center, 910 E. 4th St., El Dorado. Slik Nickel will perform. Admission is $6 per person. Smoking and alcohol is prohibited. Huttig group to hold Census workshop meeting Concerned Citizens of Huttig will host a community meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Huttig Community Center, 501 Frost St. Refreshments will be served. Guest speakers will be data dissemination specialist Deborah T. Pitchford of the Federal Census Bureau. Pitchford will provide updates on the federal census process and procedures, with an opportunity for questions and answers after the presentations. Candidates for public office also will be present to discuss their positions on issues and take questions. Concerned Citizens of Huttig is a community-based group that encourages people to get involved in organizing, social justice issues, advocacy and electoral engagement at local and state levels. Guns and Hoses pageant to be held Saturday The annual Guns and Hoses Pageant, which benefits the #teamcorrie Cancer Foundation, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the El Dorado Municipal Auditorium, 100 W. Eighth. First responders from area law enforcement agencies, the El Dorado Fire Department and ambulance crews will compete in evening gown and talent categories. Admission is $10 for adults and school-age children. Donations will be accepted. The #teamcorrie foundation awards grants to help cover medical expenses for cancer patients in Union County. The Promise

On the first day of kindergarten, students are met by representatives from the El Dorado Promise and Simmons bank with a backpack full of informaion on both the promise. Along with the backpacks, students are taught the El Dorado Promise cheer celebrating the idea of going to college when they graduate from El Dorado High School.

Meanwhile, at El Dorado High School, Washington Middle School and Barton Junior High School students jumped into straight into classes. Students started topics discussing class rules to the introduction of characterization.
