Lady Bucks pound Harmony Grove

SMACKOVER - Smackover piled up 13 hits Thursday in a 13-4 conference victory over Harmony Grove. The Lady Bucks improved to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in 3A 8 action.

Emily Camacho allowed four hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in seven innings for Smackover. The junior also went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored three runs.

“Camacho was on top of it, pitching-wise and her hitting was, too,” said Smackover coach Dennis Steele.

The Lady Bucks scored a run in every inning, including four runs each in the second and third. The Lady Hornets also issued five walks and committed seven errors.

Smackover scored a run in the first when Camacho doubled and scored on a single by Ava Walker. In the second, A’Olani Baugus singled and Chloe Lewis walked. A run scored on Abby Brewer’s hit. With two outs, Camacho and Presley Ainsworth both walked to plate a run. Walker reached on an error, scoring another run and Julia James had a RBI walk. In the third, Lewis walked and Brewer singled before Taylor Darden’s two-run single. Walker would later stroke a two-out, two-run single.

Smackover, which plays DeWitt on Friday, committed four errors in the game.

“Being honest with you, we didn’t play as good as we could play tonight,” said Steele. “We’ve got to play better. We won and there’s always positives in a win. But there are some things we have to fix for us to be where I want them to be. I think we need to play better. We made some mistakes I don’t think we should be making.”

Brewer went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. Darden had two hits and three RBI. Walker drove in three runs on two hits and Baugus went 2-for-4.

Avery Furr started for Harmony Grove and allowed 11 runs on 11 hits with five walks and a strikeout in four innings. Peyton Priddy pitched two innings, allowing two runs on two hits with two strikeouts.
