Meet Me at the Court food deliveries go on today in spite of weather

Snow is in the forecast today and temperatures are expected to plummet well below freezing.

For Meet Me at the Court, it is perfect weather to cozy up with a hearty soul food meal, while commemorating a Civil Rights icon.

To that end, Veronica Bailey -- president and CEO of the nonprofit, community-service organization -- said the group will deliver free dinner plates throughout the community in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

"We will be doing it. We will be moving forward," Bailey said. "No matter the weather, we're going to get the plates to our loved ones in the community."

The meal deliveries will be the first community-service project of 2024 for MMC youth members.

"It's not going to be in any certain area. We're just going to be going around the community." Bailey said previously.

The dinners will come with a free rotisserie chicken, a dessert and a copy of King's renowned "I Have a Dream" speech, which he delivered during the March on Washington on Aug. 28, 1963.

Bailey said MMC will begin distributing dinner plates between 3 and 3:30 p.m.
