The 2024 Arkansas Municipal League Winter Conference starts today in Little Rock and with several city officials planning to attend the conference, the first regularly scheduled El Dorado City Council meeting of the year has been reset.

The meeting was to have been held Thursday but it has been rescheduled to 5 p.m. on Jan. 16 in the Council Chamber of City Hall.

The Pledge of Allegiance and opening prayer will start at 4:55 p.m.

During a discussion about the matter last month, Mayor Paul Choate said that he would review the calendar and determine a new date for the meeting, eventually settling on Jan. 16.

The mayor's office is expected to issue an agenda/order of business for the council meeting later this week.

The annual municipal league conference will run through Friday.

City officials will attend workshops and educational sessions regarding various facets of municipal government, including new laws and programs, one of which is ACT 537.

Passed by state legislators last year, ACT 537 requires public employers to provide licensed counseling to public safety employees who have experienced a traumatic event in the line of duty.

According to the AMLWC agenda, attendees are also expected to learn about funding opportunities and other resources that are available to create and/or revitalize public spaces, such as downtown restoration and new parks, or launching community events.
