A Crossett woman was killed Tuesday in a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler on U.S. 82 near El Dorado, according to the Arkansas Department of Public Safety.

Arkansas State Police reported that Shalitha M. Waters, 32, was ejected from her 2021 Nissan Versa as it burst into flames upon impact during the collision.

She was pronounced dead on the scene by Union County Coroner Stormey Primm.

The accident occurred at 11:45 a.m., approximately eight miles east of El Dorado.

State police said Waters was "attempting to pass traffic" while heading west on the highway when her car crossed the center line into the eastbound lane and struck an oncoming Mack truck that was traveling east on the highway.

Waters car then caught fire and came to rest in the eastbound lane of traffic, the ASP reported.

ProMed Ambulance, the El Dorado Fire Department and Hibanks Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the scene.

ASP said the cause of the fire was undetermined.

The driver of the 18-wheeler sustained minor injuries, including cuts and bruises, the ASP said.

State police also reported that Waters was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred, noting that the weather was clear and road conditions were dry at the time.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was wearing a seatbelt, ASP said.
