An El Dorado man is being held in without bond in connection to a shooting that left another man with serious injuries earlier this week.

Bruce Sanders, 69, of El Dorado, made his first appearance Wednesday in 35th Judicial District Court on felony charges of attempted capital murder, second-degree domestic battery, aggravated assault and penalty enhancements for felony with a firearm and offenses committed in the presence of a child.

He also faces a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a minor, second-degree.

Sanders is accused of shooting James Golden, 59, during an altercation on May 14 at a residence in the 400 block of South Smith.

Golden was reportedly struck several times and was transported by ambulance to Medical Center of South Arkansas.

Police said Golden was not admitted into MSCA and was immediately airlifted to Ochsner Louisiana State University Shreveport - Academic Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, to be treated for his wounds.

An update on his condition was not available late Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were called to the South Smith residence just before 10 p.m. on May 14 in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Golden lying outside the residence with several gunshot wounds.

Police said Sanders does not live at the residence and it appeared that Golden may have been there visiting.

An altercation between the two men ensued, according to police. Sanders reportedly produced a gun and fired shots at Golden, striking him several times.

Police have not said if they know what sparked the altercation.

Officers said a 12-year-old child was at the residence at the time of the shooting, noting the child's mother had left the residence prior to Sanders' arrival.

The woman and child live at the residence, officers said.

Sanders was identified as a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He was taken into custody just after 9 p.m. on May 15. Details were not available Wednesday about how Sanders was apprehended.

District Court Judge Jack Barker on Wednesday ordered that Sanders be held without bond in the Union County Jail as his case is bound over to Union County Circuit Court for further proceedings.

Sanders was determined indigent. A public defender will be assigned to his case.
