Homicide victim was suspect's uncle, PD says

Few new details released in case

A joint investigation continues in a homicide and officer-involved shooting in an incident that occurred last week and resulted in the deaths of a man and his nephew.

The El Dorado Police Department and Arkansas State Police are probing the homicide of Thomas Lockett, 63, and OIS shooting of 41-year-old Lance Lockett, respectively.

Few details have been released about either investigation and that status had not changed much on Monday.

Just after 11:30 p.m. on May 9, officers responded to a report of a homicide at a residence on West Wesson Street, just east of Newton Avenue.

The EPD and the Union County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and confirmed there was a homicide victim, Thomas Lockett, inside the residence.

Last week, Sheriff Ricky Roberts said a county sheriff's deputy shot Lance Lockett, who is believed to be the suspect in the homicide.

The circumstances surrounding the OIS remain unclear.

Lt. Jarod Primm of the El Dorado Police Department's Criminal Investigative Division said Monday that Lance Lockett called 911 and reported that a homicide had occurred at his uncle's residence.

"It was Thomas Lockett's house and it appeared his nephew had been staying there some," Primm said.

He declined to comment further on the matter, citing the ongoing investigations.

The ASP did not release any additional details about its investigation into the OIS on Monday.

Roberts previously said the deputy who fired the fatal shot(s) in the incident has been placed on administrative leave pending the ASP investigation.
