Teen killed in Saturday morning shooting

El Dorado police are investigating two shootings that occurred Saturday morning -- one of which left a 16-year-old boy dead in the city's first homicide of the year.

The shootings occurred within an hour and a half of each other on the same street, North Mosby Avenue, police said.

Lt. Jarod Primm, of the El Dorado Police Department's Criminal Investigative Division, said officers were already in the area on an unrelated call when they received a report of shots fired at a residence in the 1200 block North Mosby.

The shooting was reported just before 8 a.m.

Upon arrival, police said they found the victim, later identified as the 16-year-old boy, lying in the backyard with several gunshot wounds.

The boy was transported by ambulance to Medical Center of South Arkansas, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police have not publicly released the boy's name.

His body was sent Saturday to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for an autopsy. Primm said he is not sure when the crime lab will release a preliminary report.

He said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Investigators recovered several shell casings from the scene and are continuing to interview witnesses, he said, adding there were other people at the North Mosby residence when the shooting occurred.

He said investigators had not established a motive or identified a suspect by Saturday afternoon.

While officers were on the scene of the fatal shooting, they heard gunshots nearby at approximately 9:30 a.m.

Primm said the shots were fired in the 500 block of North Mosby.

No injuries were reported in the second shooting. Several vehicles and two houses in the area were struck by bullets, said Primm.

Investigators have not yet determined if the shootings are related.

"No one was actually hit in the second shooting. Officers were able to pretty quickly to both shootings because they were already in the area," Primm said. "We have very few leads. We're still talking to folks."

He urged anyone with information about either incident to call the CID at 870-881-4810 or El Dorado Crime Stoppers at 870-863-INFO (4636).
