A 35-year-old Little Rock man was killed and an El Dorado man was injured in a shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon.

Police responded at approximately 4:30 p.m. to a report that a man had brandished a handgun at a residence in the area of Stuart and Elm and 911 dispatchers reported hearing gunshots during the emergency call.

While en route to the scene, police learned there was at least one shooting victim, and upon arrival, police described a chaotic scene in which a crowd was gathering in the streets and several people were screaming.

Officers said a male with what what appeared to be a gunshot wound was lying unresponsive on the ground in the 200 block of Stuart.

Witnesses pointed officers to a second gunshot victim, 29.

Both victims were transported by ambulance to Medical Center of South Arkansas.

The 35-year-old man was pronounced dead.

Capt. Kevin Holt, public information officer for the El Dorado Police Department, said the second victim sustained injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

By Sunday night, police had not yet released the names of either victim or established a motive for the shooting.

Witnesses initially said a suspect was inside a house in the 200 block of Stuart, but police said they did not find anyone inside the house during a search.

“We’re still collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. Our investigators got a search warrant for the house, so that slows the process a bit,” Holt said.
