Quorum court approves bonuses for county employees

The Union County Quorum Court unanimously approved a one-time payroll bonus for all full-time county employees last Thursday, based upon the employee’s accumulated years of service with the county.

The bonuses were previously discussed during the October meeting, where it was voted on to have an ordnance written for the November meeting.

Full-time county employees who qualify for the bonus must have been employed as of Nov. 10 and are “in good standing.”

The bonuses will be calculated based upon the employee’s years of service since his or her last date of hire with Union County. Full-time employees who have worked for the county for one to two years will be given $200, two to five years of service, $500, five to 10 years of service, $750 and 10 years of service or more, $1,000.

In other business, the quorum court approved an ordinance levying taxes on all taxable real and personal property in Union County for 2018.

The total levied for the year 2018 are: Huttig, 5.8 mills; Junction City, 5 mills; Strong, 5.4 mills; Calion, 6 mills; Norphlet, 5.3 mills; El Dorado, 5. 4 mills; Smackover, 5 mills; Felsenthal, 5 mills.

South Arkansas Community College was levied .5 mills for support and/or capital outlay.

Also levied were property tax on all taxable real and personal property within the limits of the various school districts in Union County, “pursuant to the election on May 22.”

The voters of Union County approved millages for the following school districts: El Dorado, 33.5 mills; Parkers Chapel, 39.8 mills; Smackover-Norphlet, 41 mills; Junction City, 40.9 mills; Strong-Huttig, 39 mills.

The ordinance also levied a 0.4 mill library tax on all real and personal property which is subject to taxation and is located in Union County, outside of the limits of El Dorado; levied a 3 mill road tax on all taxable and real personal property located in Union County and levied a 4 mill county general fund tax on all taxable real and personal property located within Union County.
