Breaking and entering

Two men were being in lieu of bond Saturday in the Union County Jail, a day after they were arrested in connection to recent reports of vehicle break-ins and trespassing on the east side of town.

One of the men, 18-year-old Tyrell R. Dunn, of 1330 Blackard, was arrested in August for his alleged role in a string of vehicle break-ins and thefts that occurred over the summer in various neighborhoods in El Dorado.

Dunn and Demarcus O. Aaron, 20, 929 S. Jackson, received bonds of $35,000 and $25,000, respectively, during first appearance hearings Nov. 2 in 35th Judicial District Court on felony charges of breaking and entering and theft or property.

Approximately eight hours before their 10 a.m. court appearances, Dunn and Aaron were taken into custody after police were called to the east side of town in reference to a criminal trespass report that led to the discovery of a vehicle break-in.

Items found on their persons linked them to at least one vehicle break-in, according to a police a report.

A woman told police that two black males wearing dark clothing entered her yard while she sat in her carport in the 300 block of Strong Highway.

She said it did not appear as if the males saw her, and when she hollered at them, they ran away.

While circulating the area, officers said they saw two males standing in the intersection of Julia and Lilac, noting the males matched the description that was provided by the complainant.

The males, later identified as Dunn and Aaron, initially began walking away from officers but later complied with commands to stop, police said.

During a search, police said they found on Dunn’s person a loaded handgun that was later reported stolen from a vehicle at a residence in the 400 block of Strong Highway.

Police said they also recovered from Dunn two cellphones, a debit card, bank card and state-issued identification card, noting that the identification card that belonged to a resident in the 1200 block of Paxton Road.

The Paxton Road resident said a purse containing a wallet with multiple identification cards were missing from her vehicle.

Police recovered the purse at the intersection of Paxton and Ivy and the wallet just north of the Paxton Road residence.

They said a checkbook and multiple identification cards belonging to the Paxton Road resident were inside the wallet.

A box of bullets were also found in the right front pocket of Aaron’s jacket. An officer said he recognized the name of a woman that was written on the box.

Police later spoke with the woman’s relative, who confirmed that he was the owner of the gun that was recovered from Dunn.

He said the gun was stolen from his vehicle at his residence in the 400 block of Strong Highway.

While checking for other possible vehicle break-ins in the area, police said they noticed the glove compartment and center console open and the contents strewn in a vehicle at a residence in the 200 block of Ivy.

A resident there said the vehicle belonged to her daughter, adding that she believed her daughter left the vehicle unlocked.

No items were reported stolen.

Aaron and Dunn were identified as persons of interest in the break-in.

Dunn also faces a charge of a minor in possession of a handgun and he is being detained on an arrest warrant out of Little Rock.

The 18-year-old was arrested in July after being linked to several vehicle break-ins and thefts that were reported in the city at the time.

On July 26, he was taken into custody in Pine Bluff after police there spotted him driving a car that had been reported stolen in El Dorado.

A 17-year-old boy who was in the car with Dunn was also taken into custody by Pine Bluff police.

The boy was arrested again Aug. 8 for theft by receiving, curfew violation, carrying a weapon and criminal trespass.

At the time, Dunn was arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor and criminal trespass, both misdemeanor charges.

El Dorado police had responded to reports of shots fired in the area of North Miles and North.

Officers made contact with Dunn and the boy, who were walking in the 1300 block of Woodland.

Police said the males stepped into the front yard of a nearby residence and told officers they lived there.

The homeowners told police Dunn and the boy were not residents there, and the males were taken into custody for criminal trespass.

Police said the boy had two semi-automatic handguns in a backpack and learned that one of the guns had been reported stolen from a vehicle in the 2300 block of Calion Road.
