MILAM RHODES

Milam Rhodes was born in El Dorado, on Dec. 10, 1929 and “went home” on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.B. and Frances LeNora Rhodes, his wife, Jeanette Fuller Rhodes, his brother-in-law, Gerald Hanry, Sr. and his siblings, Inez Rhodes Woolley Cryer, Imogene Rhodes Johnson, Elise Rhodes Gainer and his twin brother, Michael M. Rhodes.

Leaving Junction City as a young man, Milam chose to join the United States Navy, serving for four years. He immensely enjoyed his time spent in California serving his country. Returning to south Arkansas, he married Jeanette, his wife of 59 years and began his career with the Missouri Pacific Railroad, retiring in 2000.

Milam was an avid car enthusiast and a snazzy dresser. He enjoyed travel whether with the Navy or with the railroad and rarely met a stranger who enjoyed friends made across the country. He took pride in keeping abreast of local as well as worldwide news and events. While living in St. Louis, Milam found his love for opera and classical music. He delighted in being an interested uncle in the lives of his nieces, nephews and all young people in his family.

Left to honor his memory are Susan Hanry Griffin, Monte Griffin, Wil Griffin, Carey Shoemake, Linda Gibson, Betty Jo Fagan, Carl Johnson, Randy Rhodes, Joel Rhodes, Joe Rhodes, Ross Rhodes, Ray Rhodes, Freddie Rhodes, Paul Rhodes, Gerald Hanry, Jr., Walter Hanry, Cherolynne Hanry, Jeremy Hanry, Joshua Hanry and Jeb Hanry.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 26th, 2 p.m. at Scotland Presbyterian Church in Junction City, with the Rev. Edith Hill of The Presbyterian Church of Ruston officiating.

Mr. Rhodes’ family greatly appreciates the kindness and exceptional care at his home from Patricia Robinson, Stephanie Ford, Dorothy Miller and Tyshika Ford. A special thank you is also given to the staff at Willow Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Arcadia, Louisiana.
