City Arrests

• LaTanya S. Glaspie, 39, of 1514 H.A. Street, was arrested March 16 for theft by receiving. While investigating an accident in which Glaspie had allegedly struck a vehicle on the parking lot of Walmart Supercenter, 2730 N. West Ave., police learned the vehicle that Glaspie was driving had been reported stolen. Glaspie initially told officers that she had borrowed the vehicle while her own vehicle was in the shop for repairs. She later said she was in the process of purchasing the vehicle from a friend. The vehicle was reported stolen in Gwinnett County, Georgia.

• Jessie W. Baker, 40, of 6847 Champagnolle Road, was arrested March 16 for residential burglary and third-degree battery. Police responded to a report of shots fired and a man asking for help in the 3400 block of King. A woman told officers that Baker, her ex-boyfriend, arrived at the residence at 12:35 a.m., asking for two bags. She said he first tried to enter the rear door, and when she yelled for him to leave, he kicked in the front door and chased her. The woman said she ran to her bedroom to retrieve her handgun, and Baker threw her onto the bed and held her down by the neck and hand. The woman said she was able to free her hand and point the gun at him, saying, “Now I have to kill you.” She said Baker then fled the residence and ran toward her vehicle. The woman said she followed Baker outside and fired a shot at him, telling officers that she was unsure if she struck Baker. Police later learned that Baker was at a residence in the 3500 block of Edgewood, and he had sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported by ambulance to Medical Center of South Arkansas for treatment. A police report did not indicate that Baker’s injuries were life-threatening. Baker told police that his ex-girlfriend had invited him to her residence the previous day to reconcile and had driven him to his residence to retrieve some personal belongings so he could move back into her residence. Baker said he went for a walk when the woman began arguing with him, and when he returned, she had locked the doors. He said he first knocked on the rear door, and when he did not receive a response, he went to the front door, but he could not open it because something was blocking it shut. Baker said he then forced his way inside the residence to retrieve his belongings. He said he fled the residence when his ex-girlfriend pointed a gun at him. Police said the woman declined medical attention and refused to answer questions about injuries that she had sustained. Police said they recovered the handgun from the woman’s residence.

• Jamarian D. Samuels, 30, of 1221 E. Block, was arrested March 14 on a warrant for absconding.

• Cory M. Caldwell, 30, of 686 Old Strong Hwy., was arrested March 13 for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms and possession of a firearm by a certain person. Police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Hillsboro and Timberlane and identified Caldwell as the driver. Police said they could smell marijuana inside the vehicle. Caldwell told officers that he did not have automobile insurance, and officers learned that his driver’s license had been suspended. He was cited for no driver’s license, no insurance, and a defective headlight, which was the reason for the traffic stop. During a search of the vehicle, police found a handgun, which had been reported stolen, a bottle containing Ecstasy and digital scales, according to a police report. Caldwell was taken into custody for theft by receiving, and as he was being booked into the Union County Jail, he told officers that there was marijuana inside his shoes. Police said they removed two bags of marijuana from Caldwell’s left shoe and a marijuana blunt from his right shoe.

• Ronald D. Jones, 45, of 1001 Short W. Second, was arrested March 14 for second-degree battery, second-degree criminal mischief, criminal trespass, obstructing governmental operations, and resisting arrest. Officers responded to a report of a vehicle dropping off two males underneath the Hillsboro viaduct near an abandoned railroad storage building at Omnisales International, 518 South Jackson. Police said they found Jones inside the building. They said he did not comply with commands to show his hands, and as they attempted to arrest him, he began fighting them, punching an officer in the face and back of the head. Officers then moved away from Jones as one officer deployed a chemical spray to subdue him. Police said they attempted to take Jones into custody, and he again resisted. Officers said they took Jones to the ground, and he picked up a brick. Police used a chemical spray a second time, and they were then able to take Jones into custody. The officer who was punched by Jones sustained a laceration to his top lip and multiple abrasions to the back of the head, according to a police report.

• Ashley Buckwalter, 40, of 273 Palisades Ln., El Dorado was arrested March 13 for two counts of third-degree battery. Buckwalter is accused of attacking her ex-girlfriend in Arlington Cemetery, 702 N. Mosby, where the two women agreed to meet so the victim could retrieve some personal belongings. The victim told officers that she was six months pregnant, noting that her adult daughter was present during the attack. The woman said the suspect began “cussing and yelling at her,” and when she and her daughter began walking away, the suspect grabbed her by the arm, scratching her and ripping her shirt. She said the suspect then placed her in a bear hug, and a struiggled ensued. The woman said she dropped her cellphone and told her daughter to pick it up and call police. According to a police report, the two women then began struggling over the phone, and the suspect struck the victim in the ribs. The victim said she and her daughter began walking away again, and the suspect drove alongside them yelling obscene comments before driving away. Police said the woman’s shirt was torn, there were scratches on her right arm, fingernail indentions near her neck and some redness on her side. Police said they later located the suspect in Neal Park on North Parkway and took her into custody.

• Jerry L. Dunn, III, 35, 515 1/2 W. Block was arrested March 12 on a warrant for parole violation.

City Reports

• A woman told police March 16 that someone broke into her vehicle at her residence in the 200 block of North Gray and stole her wallet containing eight credit cards, a debit card, driver’s license, insurance card and other items.

• On March 16, a woman told police that someone broke into her residence in the 1500 block of Emmett and stole a TV, radiator heater, miniature refrigerator, and two pairs of shoes.

• On March 15, an employee of First Financial Bank reported that a woman forged four money orders, totaling $4,000. The employee said the woman deposited the money orders into her account in February, and her account was overdrawn by $3,958.07.

• A woman reported March 15 the theft of her vehicle from a friend’s residence in the 1300 block of Orchard. Police said they learned a man had towed the vehicle to a local scrapyard, and the vehicle had already been crushed.

• On March 15, police responded to a report of property found in a wooded area near Mount Holly and North Bradley. A man led officers to two backpacks and a cheerleader bag. Using an identification card that hanging from one of the backpacks, officers were able to locate the owner, who said the items were stolen from her vehicle several weeks ago.

• A man told police March 14 that someone stole his vehicle, a white, 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, from the 1200 block of Norsworthy. The man said he had left the keys inside the vehicle and the doors unlocked.

• A man reported March 14 the theft of several items from the carport of his residence in the 2500 block of North Jefferson. He said the theft was captured on security cameras at his residence. The man said a guest who was staying at his house recognized one of two suspects who were seen on the surveillance video taking the items, and the suspect returned all of the items, except a torch, MIG welder, cross bow and air compressor. The man said the suspect told him he had sold the rest of the property.

• A man reported March 13 that a man issued a terroristic threat against him. The suspect accused the man of owing him money, and the man said he told the suspect to follow him to a local bank. The complainant said he contacted police in the meantime, and the suspect followed him until he turned into the parking lot of the El Dorado Police Department. The man said he had gotten money from the suspect’s father earlier the same day.

• On March 12, a woman told police that someone knocked two holes in the roof of her residence in the 600 block of East Miles. The woman said the roof had been leaking, causing severe water damage to the ceiling.

• A woman told police March 11 that three people, two women and a man, entered her residence in the 900 block of East Beech and attempted to fight a woman there. The other woman told police that the trio had come to the house earlier, banged on the door and demanded that she come outside and fight them.

• A man reported on March 11 the theft of his wallet from his residence in the 1200 block of Trinity. He provided possible suspect information. Police said they did not find the wallet on the suspect the man identified.
