Elks Lodge to hold an Independence Day celebration

The ELKS - Gusher Lodge 560 is kicking off its Independence Day celebration early with daily events that start today and will lead up to July 4.

To get the ball rolling, an Afternoon Hangout is set from 1 until 5 p.m. Friday at the ELKS Lodge, located at the intersection of 19th and Martin Luther King. Afternoon Hangouts are also scheduled for the same time on Saturday, July 2 and July 3.

There is no cover charge for the hangouts. Attendees are invited to take respite from the summer heat and play cards, dominoes and engage in other fun activities.

Nightly events will kick off at 9:30 p.m., starting Friday with DJ BMOE providing musical entertainment.

Friday will include $1 domestic beers. Saturday is an All-In-White Affair and July 1 is Zydeco Nite with fashion breaks — mini-fashion shows that will be held intermittently throughout the night.

Wakanda Nite is set for July 2 in a nod to the blockbuster Marvel movie, Black Panther.

Admission is $7 for each of the nightly events.

On July 3, Front Cover, a band from Shreveport, Louisiana, will take the stage. Front Cover performs old-school R&B, pop, classic rock, jazz and a host of “classic and memorable” Top 40 hits. Doors open at 9 p.m., and the show starts at 9:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 the day of the show.
