Drillers, Bucks split doubleheader

NORPHLET - The El Dorado Drillers and Smackover split a doubleheader of five-inning games on Monday.

The Bucks used a four-run fourth and a solid effort from Jacob Eubanks on the mound to win the opener 8-6, but the Drillers roared back to win the nightcap 11-0, erupting for four runs in the second and third innings to pull away.

Jackson Cook drove in three runs for the Bucks, who led 8-1 before surviving a five-run fifth to win the opener.

Eubanks walked two and struck out three while allowing nine hits in going the distance. Of the six runs he allowed, only four were earned.

Eubanks also helped himself by walking twice and scoring two runs with a stolen base while finishing 1-for-2 at the plate.

Chase Brumley went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored, while Rhett Richardson finished 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI.

Reed Stone paced the Drillers by going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs scored.

Christian Webb went 2-for-2 with a stolen base and an RBI, while Tyler Johnson was the third Driller to record a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a run scored, a stolen base and two RBIs.

Cody Lee stole two bases while going 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored, and Westdan Owens was 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, a run scored and two RBIs.

Owens surrendered eight runs with five being earned over 3 1/3 innings to take the loss. He allowed three hits, walked six and struck out two.

Johnson walked three and allowed one hit over 1 2/3 innings in relief. He struck out two.

In the second game, Chase Webb turned in a dominant performance on the mound, striking out 12 while allowing just one hit over four scoreless innings. He walked three.

Webb also shined at the plate, driving in five runs while going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base.

Owens also had two hits in the win, going 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.

Landon Rainwater went 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, one run scored and one RBI.

Johnson went 1-for-1 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Bradley Baston was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI and Christian Webb was 1-for-2 for the Drillers.

Jordan Brock went 1-for-2 for Smackover.

Richardson and Josh Saulsbury did the pitching for the Bucks in the second game.

The Drillers will host the Monroe (La.) Nationals Thursday before hosting Parkers Chapel in a doubleheader on Friday.

OILERS COMPETE AT SHERIDAN

The El Dorado Oilers posted a 1-2 record at the Sheridan Wood Bat Tournament.

The Oilers were downed by Morrilton 12-1 and Searcy 7-4 while picking up a win over Hot Springs Village via forfeit.

In the loss against Searcy, Connor Cates struck out 13 batters over five innings of work. He allowed six hits, walked six and only three of the seven runs he allowed were earned.

Stone worked a scoreless inning in relief, recording a strikeout while allowing one walk.

Three Oilers had two hits in the contest.

Chase Webb went 2-for-3 with a stolen base, a walk and a run scored, while Cade Schibler was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI on a sacrifice fly and Jack Smith had two doubles en route to going 2-for-3 with an RBI that also came on a sacrifice fly.

Robbie Roberson walked three times, stole two bases and scored a run, and Alex Burris drew a pair of walks, stole a base and scored a run to round out the Oilers’ attack.

The Oilers will be back in action Thursday when they host the Monroe (La.) Majors.
