The rapper Boosie, formerly known as Lil Boosie, will be kicking off Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in El Dorado with a performance on Jan. 19 at the Murphy Arts District’s First Financial Music Hall.

Although the show will take place at MAD, it is not on their calendar because it is a facility rental, not a show brought to the venue by the district.

Jeremy “Jayo” Owens said doors will open for the show, which is being called “Living The Dream,” at 9 p.m. on Jan. 19, which is also the start of Martin Luther King Jr. weekend. Martin Luther King Jr. Day will fall on Jan. 21.

“[The concert] is going to be in a safe environment,” Owens said. “We decided to have it at MAD and we’re working with them and the El Dorado Police Department and their security.”

Owens said they are following the same format that MAD had for the Gucci Mane and 2 Chainz concerts.

Owens said there is no age limit for the concert. “When it comes to music, there’s no age limit for music,” he said.

He added that the show is for “teenagers and up.”

Owens said he knows Boosie’s road manager and contacted him about having Boosie perform in El Dorado.

Owens said Boosie, who is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, performed in El Dorado about 10 years ago.

“I just talked to his road manager and he remembered coming here and so, just one thing led to another,” Owens said. “It’s been a while since [Boosie] has been in the state of Arkansas, so he’s looking forward to it, coming to see his fans.”

Opening for the rapper are Poppa Hussein, Big Fella Zil, T Rell and Mike Dizzle, with DJ Shotime, DJ Drewster and DJ Hollygrove.

Owens said Big Fella Zil, who is from Shreveport, has a hit song out right now called “Working My Shoulders,” which is a dance song popular among college students listen to. Also popular among college students is Poppa Hussein, who has a song titled “I’m Lit.”

“Basically it’s going to be a high energy show,” Owens said. “We’re kind of collaborating the trap music with the dance music-feel to it. It’s going to be a big party.”

VIP Meet and Greet tickets are already sold out, and were $125 each, Owens said.

Pit passes at $65 and general admission tickets are $45, but on the day of the show, ticket prices will go up.

On the day of the show, general admission prices will be $60.

Owens said tickets have been selling fast, especially on college campuses, including Southern Arkansas University and University of Louisiana Monroe, plus others.

“So we’re expecting a big crowd with all of the support,” Owens said. “We should have a good weekend.”

Tickets are available for the show at eventbrite.com/livingthedream. For more information, call 870-814-8484.

“It’s going to be a 60 minute performance [Boosie] is going to do,” Owens said. “So he’s going to give you your money’s worth.”
