AL VERNON

Al Vernon, 82, of El Dorado, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House.

Born Oct. 21, 1935 in El Dorado, he was the son of Alfred Brantley Vernon Sr. and Dovie Newsom Vernon, who preceded him in death. He had been employed at Murphy Oil Corp. as an accountant. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and treasured his time spent with friends and family at Lake Greeson. Al was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees and had been the church treasurer for many years. Al also served his country as a member of the U. S. Army.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Beverly Cain Vernon of El Dorado; a son, Trey Vernon (Pam) of El Dorado; daughters, Shayne Rothwell (Shawn) of Camden, Valerie Rogers (Brian) of Little Rock, and Allison Hartley of Shreveport Louisiana. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Bella Rothwell, Sam Rothwell, Jackson Hancock, Kate Vernon, Justin Ardwin (Stacy), and Corey Ardwin (Connie); along with three great-grandchildren, Vincent Ardwin, Lilith Ardwin, and Katy Ardwin.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 in St. Paul United Methodist Church with Dr. Bubba Smith and the Rev. John Darnell officiating, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5 until 7:00 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Directors.
