Several universities announce honors lists

TUSCALOOSA, AL — University of Alabama student Julia Dorothy Daniels of El Dorado, was named to the Dean’s List for Spring 2017.

A total of 11,101 students enrolled during the 2017 spring semester at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean’s List with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the President’s List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s). The UA Dean’s and President’s lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello named 170 students to the Chancellor’s List for the spring semester and another 304 students to the Dean’s List, according to Carol Dolberry, registrar.

Selection to the Chancellor’s List requires a grade point average of 4.0 on at least 12 semester hours of course credit at the 1000-4000 level. The Dean’s List requires a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, also on at least 12 semester hours of course credit at the 1000-4000 level.

Local students named to the chancellor’s list include Hiland C. Alexander of El Dorado and Judith D. Grafton of Junction City. Dean’s List scholars include Sequin M. Cook of Smackover, Courtney A. Orr of Junction City; Samuel Barron, James M. Gathright, Christian R. Jefferson, Michael T. Sims and Carrie J. Wilson of El Dorado.

FAYETTEVILLE – The following local University of Arkansas students were named to the Chancellor’s List after earning 4.0 grade point averages during the spring 2017 semester: Murphy Aycock of Smackover; Alexandra Johnson and Kadee Patterson.

The following local University of Arkansas students were named to the Dean’s List of their respective colleges after earning grade point averages between 3.75 and 4.0 during the spring 2017 semester: Hannah Hopson and Amber Yates of El Dorado.

The following local students in the School of Law at the University of Arkansas earned a 3.0 grade point average or higher during the spring 2017 semester and were named to the Law School Dean’s list: Raymond Hickey and Alex Wynn of El Dorado.

ARKADELPHIA — Nearly 300 students at Ouachita Baptist University were named to the President’s List for the spring 2017 semester.

To be named to the President’s List, a student must compile a 4.0 grade point average and be classified as a full-time student, with a minimum of 12 academic hours.

Ouachita Baptist University, a private Christian liberal arts university in Arkadelphia, is ranked among “Best National Liberal Arts Colleges” by U.S. News & World Report and among “America’s Top Colleges” by Forbes magazine. Serving since 1886 as a Christ-centered learning community, Ouachita has a current enrollment of 1,517 students from nearly 30 states and 30 nations.

The following Arkansas students were named to the President’s List and are listed in order of hometown: Mason Clay, Alyson Cole, Kelsey Harris, Anna Norris, Annie Phillips of El Dorado.

More than 320 students at Ouachita Baptist University were named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2017 semester. The students will receive a certificate of recognition from Ouachita and will be included in the “National Dean’s List” for 2016-17.

SAU inducts 57

students into NSLS

MAGNOLIA — Southern Arkansas University inducted 57 students into the National Society of Leadership and Success recently during the 2017 spring semester.

Inductees from this area include Wanda Sturges of Mount Holly, Mitchell Rowland of Junction City; Thomas Quarshie, Chardesia George and Jamila Maxwell of El Dorado.

Renee Langley wins Mulerider Leadership award

MAGNOLIA — Renee Langley was recognized with the Mulerider Leadership award at the Southern Arkansas University Leadership Recognition and Awards banquet held at the end of the spring semester.

Langley is a senior Nursing (BSN) major from El Dorado. Langley’s involvement includes Student Nurses Association, Peer Tutor and Mentor, Stem Cell Registry Drive, FEMA Training, Flu Shot Training & Clinic, Arkansas Food Bank and Oklahoma City Food Bank.

The annual Leadership Recognition and Awards banquet recognizes student leadership and involvement outside of the classroom as a part of SAU’s “Complete College Experience.”

Universities announce local spring 2017 graduates

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello presented 476 awards to 454 students during May commencement exercises, according to information released today by the UAM registrar’s office.

Graduates from Union County include Shelby M. Lane (BS) of Huttig, Taylor N. Orr (BA) of Junction City; Siesha K. Boyette (AAS), James M. Gathright (AA, BA) and Elizabeth A. Johnson (MAT) of El Dorado.

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas Tech University Registrar’s Office has released a certified list of 1,826 degrees conferred upon students on the Russellville campus during the 2016-17 academic year.

The list includes graduates from the campus in Russellville with associate, bachelor, master, educational specialist and doctoral degrees.

The graduates from the Russellville campus of Arkansas Tech in Russellville for the 2016-17 academic year are Shannon D. Rogers of Huttig, Jennifer L. Fife of Strong; Larry W. Bibby, Shaytra Denise Bridges, Wesley Alan Corkins, Jenenda Crew, Maribel Diana De Arnold, Ashley Nicole Edington, Clayton Randall Hendricks, Shawana D. NEW ORLEANS — Tulane University awarded degrees to nearly 2,800 graduates on May 20 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Local student, Clayton Anthony of El Dorado, earned a Juris Doctor degree from Tulane’s School of Law.

The ceremony’s keynote speaker was Helen Mirren, an Oscar, Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress known for her support of humanitarian efforts. Mirren also received an honorary degree along with jazz great Branford Marsalis, civil rights activist Diane Nash and social psychologist Shelley Taylor.

Anthony and fellow class members were honored at the ceremony, which included all the pomp and circumstance of a traditional commencement but with a New Orleans twist, including herald trumpets, and a second-line jazz procession. Music was provided by Dr. Michael White’s Original Liberty Jazz Band; Marsalis and his father, pianist Ellis Marsalis; jazz singer Topsy Chapman and her daughter Yolanda Windsay, a Master of Liberal Arts degree recipient; and the Tulane a capella group Green Envy.

LITTLE ROCK — Local students are among the spring 2017 University of Arkansas at Little Rock graduates.

Local UA Little Rock graduates include Shannon Carroll of Mount Holly, Jacob Hall of El Dorado; Jalisha Willis and Kalisha Willis of Strong.

UA Little Rock recognized spring 2017 graduates during a May 13 commencement ceremony at the Jack Stephens Center on the university campus.

With about 11,000 students and 100 programs, UA Little Rock offers learning, research, service, social and career opportunities that can only be found at a metropolitan university located in Arkansas’ capital city.
