David Butler, prosecuting attorney for the 13th Judicial District, died Sunday. As prosecutor for the 13th District, Butler oversaw the counties of Calhoun, Cleveland, Columbia, Dallas, Ouachita and Union. The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office consists of 12 attorneys and 22 support staff. Butler has handled approximately 200 criminal jury trials and thousands of criminal cases. Butler prosecuted the first stalking case tried by a jury in the state of Arkansas. Butler also prosecuted the first continuing drug enterprise (Drug Kingpin) jury trial in Arkansas. The 13th Judicial District encompasses Cleveland, Calhoun, Ouachita, Dallas, Union and Columbia counties. Butler has tried criminal jury trials in all six counties. Union County Sheriff Ricky Roberts released a statement saying, “ It’s a sad day for law enforcement. David was passionate about prosecuting those who violated the law within the 13th Judicial District. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family.”
