STRONG — A two-car collision left one man in critical condition Wednesday morning after his vehicle clipped the trailer of an oncoming truck on U.S. Highway 82, east of Strong, officials said.

At 6:09 a.m., the Union County Sheriff’s Office received a call from dispatch stating that two vehicles crashed into each other outside of Strong, along a stretch of road that locals described as “dead man’s curve.”

Perry Livingston, 64, of Spearsville, Louisiana, was driving a white Ford F-250 truck eastbound when David Edwards, 35, of Crossett, allegedly crossed the centerline traveling westbound in his black Chevy Silverado truck, according to Arkansas State Police, Troop F.

Edwards was in critical condition when sheriff’s deputies arrived; Livingston had no reported injuries, said State Trooper Wade Schanzlin.

By the time Schanzlin said he arrived at the scene — around 7 a.m. — a medical airlift had carried Edwards to Little Rock for treatment.

“He was in critical condition, but now I think he’s stable,” Schanzlin said.

Edwards allegedly clipped the oncoming truck’s flatbed trailer, carrying miscellaneous tools, and vehicle debris scattered along the road, said Ricky Roberts, Union County Sheriff.

Roberts said his deputies responded first to the scene and blocked traffic on both sides of the road for a few hours.

Deputies and Arkansas State Troopers cleared the scene by 10 a.m.

No fatalities have been confirmed as of press time on Wednesday.
