On Saturday, deputies of the Union County Sheriff’s Office were called to Gum Street in Strong in reference to shots fired, though they could not find any danger around the area and the caller did not want to speak with them, according to a UCSO report.

On Sunday, deputies responded again to Gum Street in Strong, this time to find a bullet hole through the front door of a residence. The complainant, Nancy Daniels, said she had been away from her house since Friday and upon her return, she saw that her glass screen door was broken and that there was a bullet hole through the front door.

The incident is still under investigation by the UCSO.

According to Daryell Howell, the mayor of Strong, crime is down significantly in Strong from last year, excluding “minor break-ins and access of property.”

Howell said that there have been a few incidents recently with vandalism, but no homicides or major crimes have occurred in the city limits.

“We have employed an officer that is working full-time, patrolling Strong,” said Howell. “Hopefully, that will offset some of the minor issues.”

Vandalism has been a huge issue at the park in Strong, according to Howell and in the period of one month, the Strong Library has been vandalized four times.

At the next Strong City Council meeting, Howell said he plans to introduce another officer, who will work part-time, to assist the full-time officer in patrolling the city limits.
