After a 10-month-old boy was transported by helicopter to Arkansas Children’s Hospital last week with a blood–alcohol concentration of .19 percent, he is doing well and was released over the weekend. The 10-month-old and his siblings are currently in the care of Arkansas Department of Human Services.

According to Union County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigator Randy Gilbert, the mother of the 10-month old, Lori Lynn Sheppard, 28, was arrested on Friday night after a warrant was issued for her arrest.

During an interview with Gilbert, Sheppard said that her 10-month-old had been teething and she had given him Tylenol and Motrin to try and relieve the pain. When that didn’t seem to work, Sheppard called her mother, who told her to rub alcohol on the gums of the child.

Sheppard admitted to giving the child whiskey in his bottle.

During her first appearance on Monday in Union County District Court, Sheppard was issued 10,000 unsecured signatory bond on charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and assault on a family or household member.
