LOUISE A. HORAN

Louise Alice Harwell Bowen Horan, 95, of Henderson, Nev., was born Jan. 31, 1920, and left her earthly home on June 28, 2015, to go to her heavenly home to join her husband, William M. Horan and son, Wesley C. “Dub” Bowen Jr. of Henderson; her parents, Hilliard Graham and Lena O’Dell Harwell of Louann; brothers, Earl H. Harwell, Raymond K. Harwell, and Kit Scott “Babe” Harwell; and sister, Liela Harwell Tutt, all of Arkansas.

Louise was born in Camden, and spent her formative and early adult years in Louann. She was active with the Louann Methodist Church. She was an accomplished homemaker, a quintessential cook, and perfectionist seamstress. During World War II , Louise became the rural mail carrier in the absence of the regular carrier who was fulfilling military duty. She worked at the National Ammunition Defense (NAD) Plant in Camden, for 10 years and later relocated to Nevada in 1958, and worked at the Horseshoe Casino, the Sahara Hotel as paymaster, and for 18 years with the Clark County School District at Berkholder Middle School in a support personnel position before her retirement.

She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her daughters, Dora Alice Bowen of Henderson, and Vicki Darlene Bowen Smith of Las Vegas; her loving grandsons, Marvin W. Smith and Steven R. Smith, both of Las Vegas; her adoring three great-grandchildren, Matthew R. Smith, Sarah Caitlin Smith of Las Vegas, and Ciera Faith Smith of Greely, Colo.; her dear sister, Hazel Harwell Brian of Louann; family sister-in-law, Geneva Bryant Harwell of Little Rock; and a host of other relatives, and friends.

Visitation was at Palm Mortuary in Henderson, from 4 until 7 p.m. on July 8. A celebration of life for Louise and funeral was at 2 p.m. followed by cemetery service at 3 p.m. July 9, at Palm Mortuary Henderson, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV, 89015 with the Rev.
