Late rally lifts Texarkana past El Dorado

TEXARKANA - For the second straight game, the fifth inning was unkind to El Dorado.

After losing a 1-0 lead in the fifth in a loss to Sheridan on Tuesday, the Wildcats saw another fifth-inning lead slip away at Texarkana, as the Razorbacks rallied for a 6-4 win in a 6A-South clash on Thursday.

Jacob Prim put the Wildcats (6-9, 6-3) ahead with a three-run double in the top of the fifth, but the Razorbacks scored twice in the bottom half of the inning before adding one more in the sixth to make the final margin.

The Wildcats' rally in the fifth started with two outs, as Keenan Hicks reached on an error due to a dropped popup and Rhett Connor and Grant Garrison were each hit with pitches before Prim's double to right-center cleared the bases.

However, Texarkana rallied against Garrison, who took the loss after allowing eight hits and five runs in five innings of work. He walked two and struck out five.

Garrison was also the beneficiary of a triple play turned in the bottom of the third.

With runners at second and third with nobody out, the Razorbacks were poised for a big inning.

However, Prim fielded a grounder to third and threw to Caleb Stutts at first base to retire the batter.

Stutts then caught the runner straying too far between second and third and threw a strike to Blake Cunningham at second base for the second out.

A sophomore, Cunningham then gunned down the runner trying to score from third base.

Garrison led the Wildcats' attack by going 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Connor also had a perfect day at the plate by going 2-for-2.

Stutts allowed an unearned run in the sixth, recording three strikeouts with no hits or walks allowed.
