Flash flooding on Friday morning impeded travel in El Dorado and throughout Union County, according to multiple social media reports.

The El Dorado Police Department reported early Friday morning in a social media post that flash flooding was impacting roads in the city and informed citizens that barricades were set up in some locations warning of water on the road.

The Union County Sheriff's Office also listed areas in the county impacted by "standing or flowing water" Friday morning in a social media post including Willett Road in Mount Holly, a bridge on Bethel Road and bridges on Salem Road and Iron Mountain Road at Pleasant Grove.

The Sheriff's Office also reported that Highway 15 between Parkers Chapel Rd. and Deltin was "closed due to power lines and water over the roadway" Friday morning and that N. West Ave/Hwy. 7 south of El Dorado Chemical was impassable due to flooding.

The Smackover-Norphlet school district cancelled school for students and classified and licensed staff on Friday, although "principals and assistant principals" reported for work, according to a social media post by the district. The Parkers Chapel School District also announced Friday morning that school was cancelled for the day.

A Strong-Huttig School District official told the News-Times Friday that the district went ahead with school for the day.

Calls to the Union County Judge's office and the Union County Sheriff's Office for more information about the impact of the morning's flooding did not receive a response by press time Friday.
