About Us

The El Dorado News-Times traces its roots back to the El Dorado Times, which first published in 1889. In 1928, C.E. Palmer purchased what had become the News-Times Publishing Co. Mr. Palmer’s son-in-law Walter Hussman, Sr. took over in 1957 after Palmer’s death. Hussman’s son, Walter Hussman, Jr. remains as Chairman of what is now known as WEHCO MEDIA, INC. His daughter, Eliza Hussman Gaines, is publisher of The El Dorado News-Times and other WEHCO newspapers.

In addition to El Dorado, WEHCO MEDIA, INC. owns newspapers in Camden, Magnolia, Hot Springs and Texarkana, as well as the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock and the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Fayetteville, the Chattanooga Times Free Press in Chattanooga, Tennessee and three newspapers in central Missouri.

The ongoing mission of the News-Times is to provide local news and information that is of importance to El Dorado and the Union County community. If it matters to you, it matters to us!
