TOPIC: Love and Forgiveness
SCRIPTURE: "Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection." Colossians 3:12-14
OBSERVATION: Forgiving others is not debatable for the believer. As hard as it may be, we must remember forgiving others is what we do even as Christ forgave us. Many times, we look for some emotional feeling to verify that we have forgiven, but the reality is, that feeling may not happen. It is the right thing to do, so we forgive. Love, also, may not be easy, but it is the bond of perfection. Think of it as the one thing that holds everything together like glue is a bond.
PRAYER: God of all Creation, today as we come before you, we want to thank you for the forgiveness that is ours because of the Blood of Jesus Christ. Just as Christ has forgiven us, we choose to forgive others. We ask you to help us walk in love towards everyone because love holds everything together when it feels like everything is falling apart. Thank you Lord that love is bigger than differences ... religious, political, racial, cultural ... and love never fails. We pray our community would be known by the love that we have for one another. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
