Police investigating beating that left teen with broken facial bone

A 19-year-old El Dorado man was sent to a Little Rock hospital last week with a severe eye injury following an incident in which the man and a woman were allegedly attacked by a group of teens at the victims' residence.

Officers responded at 1:17 a.m. Thursday to a report of a battery at 2601 Junction City Road, Apt. 59.

The female victim, also 19, told officers that the male victim called her outside, saying that a "suspicious group of people" -- two males and a female -- was approaching the Junction City Road residence.

The female victim said the female attacked her and the male suspects attacked the male victim.

She said her alleged attacker took her to the ground, dragged her and began striking her with her fists and kicking her.

The male victim made similar statements, telling police that he was standing outside the residence when the trio approached.

He said he asked the female victim to step outside the residence because she knew the group and he thought the suspects were "coming for her."

The male victim said the female suspect attacked the female victim and the males took him to the ground and struck him with their fists and feet as he pleaded with them to stop.

He also told police that the female victim had argued with one of the male suspects on a social media site "all night."

The male victim was transported by ambulance to Medical Center of South Arkansas "due to a serious physical injury," which was later determined to be an orbital fracture in his eye, police said.

He was transferred to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock for further treatment.

No arrests have been made in the incident and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Shots fired and arrest

Police are also continuing an investigation into an incident in which multiple shots were reportedly fired May 17 at Hillsboro Town House Apartments, 1600 Short E. Hillsboro.

Shortly after police responded to the call, they made three arrests on unrelated charges, said Capt. Scott Harwell of the El Dorado Police Department's Criminal Investigative Division.

No injuries were reported in the shooting. Police said a car was struck by gunfire. Witnesses said at least 20 shots were fired.

Officers were called to the scene just before 11:30 a.m. on May 17.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing several males running near a fence between Hillsboro Town House Apartments and Hudson Place Apartments, 301 Hudson.

They said the males continued shooting as they ran, witnesses said.

Police said they walked through the fence and onto the Hudson Place property, where more witnesses said three males wearing black clothes had run into an apartment in the complex.

Prior to entering the apartment, one of the suspects reportedly yelled, "Drop it. Put the gun in the bushes."

Two other males fled the scene in a red Ford Mustang, witnesses said, noting that all of the males had been running near the fence.

Harwell said officers spoke with three males, ages 20, 18 and 17, who were inside the apartment that was identified by witnesses and the males were taken into custody on marijuana and firearm possession charges that were unrelated to the shooting.

Ten hours later, a 34-year-old man was arrested in connection to another incident in which a single gunshot was reportedly fired across town.

Danny Rone faces charges of aggravated assault, third-degree domestic battery, endangering the welfare of a minor and interference with emergency communications.

Officers were called at 9:29 p.m. to a car wash at 1814 N. College in reference to a gunshot.

A resident in the area told officers she was inside her house when she heard a woman scream and a gunshot.

Police said a silver Honda Accord was in front of the car wash, adding that the car was unoccupied and the doors unlocked.

They also said they recovered a 9mm shell casing in a wash bay near the south end of the car wash.

Officers said a purse and two child safety seats were inside the car.

They identified the possible owner of the car -- a woman -- with a driver's license that was inside the purse.

Police said they spoke with the woman's relative and learned she had two children, ages 3 and 4.

They also learned that the woman had told another family member earlier that day that Rone was chasing her.

The woman's relative made statements indicating that the pair share the 3-year-old child, adding that they often argue and fight.

Police made contact with Rone and the woman the following day and Rone was taken into custody a short time later.

Just before 2:30 a.m. on May 18, officers located Rone's vehicle, a Dodge Charger, at a residence in the 2100 block of Lakeland.

Officers noted there was a bullet hole in the rear passenger door. Police have not released any other details about the incident, citing the ongoing investigation.
