A woman was hospitalized Thursday after what appeared to be a serious car wreck on California Avenue.

Witnesses said they saw the woman's Ford EcoSport Titanium compact go airborne and flip multiple times before flipping on its side after it initially crashed into a ditch going southwest on California Avenue.

First responders, including police, firefighters and emergency medical services, quickly came to the scene to see the grey Ford flipped on its left side facing opposing traffic.

Fire rescue had to use the jaws of life to cut through the roof of the vehicle to get to the injured driver. The woman, whose name was not released at the time of incident, was taken into an ambulance to be transported to the hospital. Paramedics did say that the woman was conscious.

Jarrod Purifoy, Camden assistant fire chief, described the scene on California road.

"We just had a single vehicle MVA (motor vehicle accident) roll over; had one patient trapped. Our guys got out and did an extrication by doing a rooftop removal. EMS took the patient and took her to the hospital," he said.
