Junction City knocks off Gurdon; Smackover falls at Drew Central

JUNCTION CITY – Junction City used a big second quarter to pull away and top Gurdon 55-34 Friday night in 8-2A play.

The Dragons (15-4, 9-1) led 11-7 at the end of the first quarter before outscoring the Go-Devils 15-4 in the second period to take a 26-11 lead at intermission.

Junction City led 44-18 at the end of the third quarter before winning by the final margin.

Ryan Allen had 18 points and Kamarian Dade added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Dragons.

Junction City will be back in action on Tuesday when they hit the road to take on Lafayette County.

MONTICELLO – The Bucks got out of the gates quickly, taking a 16-15 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Pirates responded to take a 35-20 lead at intermission in their 8-3A clash.

The Bucks trailed 47-34 at the end of three periods of play, but couldn’t make a final run at the Pirates.

“We just didn't have enough gas in the fourth quarter to make another run,” said Smackover coach Caleb Spradlin.

D’Kylan Hildreth had 22 points for the Bucks (7-7, 1-4), who are idle until Thursday when they host McGehee.
