Editor's note: This is part of a series of Q&As meant to learn why people in the community who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 decided to get the shot. A new feature will be published each Monday. Some questions and answers have been edited for clarity and brevity.

Rick Roberts serves as Union County Sheriff. He formerly led the El Dorado Police Department as Chief.

Q: When did you get your COVID-19 vaccine?

A: I received the first shot on Jan. 11, 2021 and the second shot on February 7, 2021.

Q: Which vaccine did you get?

A: Moderna

Q: Was there any hesitation on your part about getting the vaccine?

A: None what-so-ever.

Q: Did you have any side-effects from the vaccine? If so, what were they?

A: Minor arm ache at the injection site.

Q: Was it worth it to you to get the vaccine? Why?

A: Yes! I received the vaccine not only to protect myself but to protect my family.

Q: What would you say to someone who still isn't sure whether they should get the vaccine?

A: I respect the right of each individual's choice to get vaccinated or not. It should never be mandated to become vaccinated. However, please think about yourself and your loved ones when making your decision.

Q: Anything you'd like to add?

A: It seems like we have been dealing with COVID forever! It is my prayer we will soon overcome this pandemic and get back to our normal lives.
