Local schools set to compete in conference golf tournaments

The high school golf season is approaching the 18th green with conference tournaments scheduled for this week for El Dorado, Parkers Chapel and Junction City. Smackover’s district tournament was held last week.

El Dorado will compete in the 5A South Tournament, beginning Tuesday at the Glenwood Country Club. Practice rounds were held on Monday. The tournament tees off Tuesday at 9 a.m.

“We are looking forward to trying to defend both boys and girls conference titles,” said El Dorado coach Chris Ezell. “We return almost everyone from last year’s team and have been playing with the target on us all season. We have had several good rounds from each of our golfers throughout the season and we need that balanced scoring to show up. We have chances of rain in the forecast and it will come down to which team handles the course best.”

The 2A-6 Tournament will tee off Tuesday at Hope Country Club. The Lady Trojans are the defending champions. The Trojans finished as runner-up to Spring Hill last year.

“Girls have a very real chance but Horatio will be tough. Boys will have their hands full with Spring Hill,” said PC coach Mona Williams. “In my opinion, it will come down to Horatio and PC in the girls tournament and Spring Hill and PC in the boys. Top two teams qualify for state so I feel good about our chances of qualifying if we play like we have been.”

Smackover competed in the 3A 8 District Tournament last week at Glenwood Country Club. The Lady Bucks’ Brea Boyce and Mackenzie Preston qualified for the 3A State Tournament, which will be held at Glenwood on Sept. 27. Boyce shot 92 with Preston carding a 98.
