Strong finishes second at state meet

MINERAL SPRINGS – Strong’s boys track team turned in an outstanding performance at the 1A State Track Meet on Monday, finishing as the state runner-up.

The Bulldogs had 58 points to finish just behind state champion Northwest Arkansas Classical Academy, who had 60 points.

Jeremy Jackson and Jayme Correa each won individual state titles for the Bulldogs.

In winning the 200-meter dash, Jackson set a new state record, clocking in at 21.70

Jackson also won the 100 with a time of 11.80.

A junior, Jackson was the runner-up in the 400, as well as the long jump.

Correa won the state title in the discus with a throw of 117-02.

He was also third in the shot put.

LaQuincy Shelton delivered a sixth-place finish in the 300 hurdles, while Jayson Edwards placed sixth in the discus.

Byron Maze, Shundarius Shelton, Kanye Hawkins, Treveon Daniels, Treyvon Andrews, Caneilus Betters and Amari McHenry also participated for the the Bulldogs.
