El Dorado splits games; Smackover falls at tourney

BENTON, La. - El Dorado opened the 2021 season Thursday by splitting a doubleheader against Benton (La.)

The Wildcats won the opener 5-4 before falling 9-6 in the nightcap.

El Dorado came from behind to win the opener.

Trailing 3-1, the Wildcats scored three runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth to hold off the Tigers.

Rhett Richardson, Justin Dumas, Austin Jobe and Landen Rainwater each had one hit for the Wildcats.

Joseph Bolin and Dumas had RBIs for EHS, who stole eight bases in the win with Ashton Yarbrough and Jobe collecting two apiece.

Tyler Johnson picked up the win after allowing six hits and three runs with only two being earned over four innings of work.

He didn’t walk any batters and struck out one.

Rainwater allowed two hits and one earned run in three innings of relief to pick up the save. He walked three and struck out three.

In the second game, the Wildcats led twice, scoring two runs in the fourth to take a 5-4 edge.

However, the Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and added two insurance runs in the sixth.

Johnson went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored for the Wildcats.

Brennan Jones and Jobe each had two hits with Rainwater driving in a pair of runs.

Preston Howard took the loss in relief, allowing six hits and three runs in three innings. He walked two and struck out three.

SMACKOVER FALLS

PRESCOTT - Smackover opened the season with a pair of losses at the Prescott Tournament.

The Bucks fell to Bismarck 4-3 and Horatio 5-1.

Against Bismarck, the Bucks were limited to just four hits with Sawyer Cropper, Chase Brumley, Jacob Eubanks and Tanner Mitchell each picking up one hit.

Cropper and Brumley’s hits were doubles.

Bailey Rivers and Britton Warren had RBIs in the contest.

Brumley took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs with only two being earned in four innings of work. He walked four and struck out eight.

The Bucks were also held to four hits by the Lions.

Brumley went 2-for-3 with a triple and scored a run, while Rivers and Mitchell had one hit apiece against the Lions.

Eubanks went the distance on the mound for the Bucks, finishing with a seven-hitter. Of the five runs he allowed, only three were earned. He walked two and struck out four.
