Wildcats drawing interest in football recruiting

The scholarship offers keep piling up for El Dorado’s football program. Cornerback Mario Ganter received his third offer and first Division I when the Naval Academy extended one recently.

In addition to Navy, Coach Steven Jones said Ganter has received offers from Ouachita Baptist and Southern Arkansas University.

“Army is interested, too,” said Jones.

Another senior with a Division I offer is receiver Jackie Washington, who was offered by Middle Tennessee State. Senior quarterback Sharmon Rester has offers from UA-Monticello and SAU.

Junior receiver DeAndra Burns, Jr., was offered by Arkansas during the season in 2020 and also has a scholarship extended by Pittsburgh.

“We have a handful of guys in the 2022 class already with the opportunity to play college football,” said Jones. “The 2023 class is coming along strong with a couple of guys in addition to DeAndra receiving interest.”

The coach said senior linebackers Jyrin Steward and Patrick Sixbey were also getting looks in addition to receiver Kamron Bibby and offensive lineman Devin Walter.

Sixbey, who plays linebacker at about 240 pounds, could be recruited as an athlete with the possibility of playing several positions at the next level.

“OBU likes him at (defensive) line,” said Jones. “There are a couple of spots we think he could play at the next level.”
