Union County falls short on bids to host events

Union County will not be hosting any postseason events in 2021.

On Thursday, the Arkansas Activities Association announced who would be hosting regional and state tournaments with local schools not landing any bids.

Parkers Chapel was the lone school to place bids, aiming to host the regional and state tournaments for baseball and softball.

However, Horatio will be hosting the baseball and softball regional tournaments, while Carlisle was awarded the bid to host the state tournaments for both sports.

Those schools were awarded the same bids a year ago before the coronavirus pandemic canceled spring sports events in March.

Parkers Chapel hasn't hosted the state tournament for baseball and softball since 2016, and Elliot Jacobs, PC's athletic director, had hoped that trend would change.

“We did not receive either bid. We are disappointed, especially in the state bid,” Jacobs said in a text message.

“We feel schools in the northern region have had an unfair advantage being able to host the last four state tournaments, and we feel it’s time for a south region school to have that opportunity.

“We know we would take pride in bringing everyone involved a positive experience and they would walk away knowing how much PC loves their baseball and softball.”
