The Union County Election Commission met on Thursday, April 22 to continue planning for the upcoming school board elections.
Commissioners Mike Hayes and Floyd Thomas, along with commission chair Cliff Wright, went over several important dates leading up to the election and solidified the early voting and election day voting locations.
Early voting begins on May 11 and lasts until May 17 and all early voting will take place at the Union County Clerk’s Office at the county Courthouse. Polls will be open each day from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Election day is May 18. All voting on election day will take place in Parkers Chapel at the First Baptist Church of Parkers Chapel, located at 2975 Haynesville Highway.
Voters from all other districts will vote at this location in Parkers Chapel; no voting will take place at the Union County Courthouse on election day.
Polls will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. on election day.
Commissioners also planned a training session for poll workers to be held at noon on Monday, May 17, with lunch to be provided by the Parkers Chapel School Board.
Election day voting will be centralized to Parkers Chapel due to that district hosting the only contested elections.
According to filing documents from the Union County Clerks Office, Parkers Chapel Position 4 incumbent Grace Palculict will face challenger Kristina Madison and Position 5 incumbent Emily Carelock will take on challenger Lisa Murray.
El Dorado Zone 1 incumbent Wayne C. Gibson, El Dorado Zone 6 incumbent Vicky J. Dobson and Junction City Zone 4 incumbent Bobby E. Bryan will also be on the ballot for their respective districts and are all running unopposed.
Smackover Zone 4 incumbent Cliff Preston is running as a write-in candidate.
