Lake Village upends Smackover

SMACKOVER – Lake Village spoiled Smackover’s homecoming by scoring twice in the fourth quarter to break an 8-all tie en route to a 24-8 win over the Bucks Friday night in the 6-3A opener for both schools.

The Bucks opened the scoring with Austin Goodwin firing a 39-yard touchdown pass to D’Kylan Hildreth at the 4:42 mark of the opening period. The duo also collaborated on the 2-point conversion to make it 8-0.

The Bucks led by the same score at the end of the first quarter, but the Beavers tied the game near the end of the first half.

Smackover had an opportunity to take the lead early in the third quarter, but turned the ball over on a fumble in the red zone.

The Beavers themselves turned the ball over on a fumble in the red zone near the end of the stanza, leaving the game tied at 8 after three periods of play.

However, the Beavers scored early in the fourth quarter before registering a defensive touchdown to seal the victory.

Lake Village (1-3, 1-0) will host McGehee next week.

Smackover (0-2, 0-1) hits the road to take on Harmony Grove.
