PC, Barton pick up victories

BEARDEN - Parkers Chapel’s junior high boys basketball team advanced at the 8-2A District Tournament Monday with a 41-25 win over Harmony Grove.

The Trojans will be back in action tonight at 7:45 p.m. when they square off against Fordyce.

The game was close until the final stanza.

Parkers Chapel trailed 4-2 at the end of the first quarter and 13-11 at intermission before taking a 21-19 lead into the final stanza.

“I thought we played really well defensively the whole game,” Parkers Chapel coach Josh Langley said. “It took us a little while to get in a groove offensively, but once we did, we really took off in the fourth.”

Chris Greer had 20 points for the Trojans, who avenged a road loss to the Hornets during the regular season.

“They defeated us by one at their place back in December, so we knew we had a good shot to upset them in the tournament,” Langley said. “We knew we just had to buckle down defensively and finish plays on offense.”

Jaylen Gray was also in double figures with 10 points, while Elijah Brown finished with nine points for the Trojans.
