Jennifer Sharp, RN Intensive Care Unit Nurse at Medical Center of South Arkansas was honored with a DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses during a surprise ceremony.

The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s national program to recognize the extraordinary efforts nurses perform every day.

Jennifer is one of two nurses that have received the award at Medical Center of South Arkansas including her coworker, ICU Nurse Gene Brewer, RN. Jennifer was nominated for the Daisy Award by a patient’s family because of the compassionate care she delivered during their loved ones stay.

According to the nomination made from the family, “Jennifer was meant to be there and take care of my dad; in which she did with grace and great skill. I want everyone to know how wonderful she is and how we will never forget her and what she did for our family.”

Jennifer has worked at Medical Center of South Arkansas since June 2007 and has become an instrumental part of the team and patient care.

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease.

The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique program of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses has been adopted by healthcare facilities like Medical Center of South Arkansas around the world to celebrate nurses for their extraordinary care and compassion. Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues; and they are then selected by a committee of nurse leaders at Medical Center of South Arkansas.

Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, President and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation, “When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night. Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Medical Center of South Arkansas are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”

MCSA Chief Nursing Officer Amy Triplet said “We are proud to be among the healthcare organizations participating in the DAISY Award program. Nurses are heroes every day. It’s important that our nurses know their work is highly valued, and The DAISY Foundation provides a way for us to do that.”
