El Dorado defensive coordinator Trey Outlaw said Quentin Frazier and Jyrin Steward combined for 35 tackles in Friday’s 35-14 loss at Cabot. Frazier, a senior defensive end, recorded 19 tackles while Steward, a sophomore linebacker, had a career-high 16 tackles.

“Quentin did what Quentin does. He’s going to rack up tackles and tackles and tackles. He’s got one of the best motors I’ve ever seen coaching a kid. It doesn’t matter where the ball is on the field, he’s going to run down and get on the tackle,” Outlaw said.

Jyrin is developing into a real special linebacker. Last week he had 1.5 sacks. This week he had two. He’s always around the ball. He’s looking like Quentin 2.0 with the tackle numbers he’s putting up.”

Frazier had five tackles for losses and recovered a fumble. Steward had a sack and two tackles for losses.

The Panthers totaled 327 yards, including 153 yards on the ground on 47 attempts. Cabot was credited with 174 yards through the air on 14-of-24 passes.

Cabot’s final point total was helped by some second half turnovers by the Wildcats.

“Whenever the other team gets the ball inside the 10 two or three times, you’re going to give up some touchdowns,” said Outlaw. “But I was really impressed with our effort.”

Jacoby Hankton had 11 tackles, including two tackles for losses, and forced a fumble. Carmerius Rucks had nine tackles. Mario Ganter had seven tackles and Will Artis intercepted a pass.

El Dorado will take an open week to prepare for its conference opener against Lake Hamilton.

“We’re going to try and get healthy,” said Outlaw. “We’re excited about starting conference play. We get to see an offense that’s a little different, that you don’t see at the 6A level. Lake Hamilton will be a challenge for our players to get to see something a little different.”
