Strong cruises past Johnson County Westside

COAL HILL - A year ago, Strong downed Johnson County Westside to pick up their first win of the season.

On Friday night, history repeated itself, as the Bulldogs exploded for an 84-34 win over the Rebels.

According to the Arkansas Activities Association’s record book, the 84 points rank as the fourth highest total in state history, trailing Pulaski Academy (86, 2017), Fountain Lake (88, 2008) and Nashville (91, 2016).

Derrion Davis had a monster evening for the Bulldogs, scoring seven touchdowns while rushing for 254 yards on 23 carries.

Davis racked up 208 yards and four scores on just 18 carries in the first half, but the Bulldogs didn’t pull away until the second half after leading 40-26 at intermission.

Treveon Daniels had two touchdowns while finishing with 62 yards on five carries.

Quarterback Emauri Newton chipped in with 50 yards rushing on seven carries while going 4-of-7 passing for 31 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Chambers.

A junior, Chambers led the Bulldogs on defense with three interceptions, returning one 40 yards for a touchdown.

Davis also had an interception for Strong.

The Bulldogs (1-6) will play at Beekman Charter (La.) next week.

The Rebels (1-7) host Magazine next week.
