Mayor’s ‘El Dorado Dazed Weekend’ kicks off today

Mayor Veronica Smith-Creer’s “El Dorado Dazed Weekend” kicks off today with a variety of paid and free activities that will last through Sunday.

Smith-Creer has said “Dazed” is an opportunity for local residents to “hang out with each other after work” and to network.

The event is open to the public and geared toward adults. Smith-Creer has said that she is personally footing the bill.

“I am paying for this, not as the mayor, but as a taxpayer. This is not on the city’s dime,” Smith-Creer previously explained. “I’m securing the venues and I’m taking care of the rental fees to try to make it cost-effective and as affordable as possible.”

Activities include:

• A Social Mixer from 6 until 11 p.m. today, B’s Place, 508 S. Washington.

The mixer will include hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and music. Admission is $5.

• Vendors and food trucks will be set up from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday at the El Dorado Municipal Auditorium, 100 W. Eighth.

Smith-Creer said vendors will be set up inside the auditorium and food trucks outside.

Tours of El Dorado will be offered from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the city’s trolley bus.

Admission and tours are free. Attendees may purchase items from vendors.

Doors at the auditorium will re-open at 6 p.m. for “El Dorado’s Saturday Night Live,” a show that will feature comedian EJ Speaks, singer Emily Cole and The Fantastic 5!, a blues and southern soul collective that includes Benito, Mr. Lyve, Royal D, Coupe Deville and Kiko Pryor.

Tickets are $20 for “Saturday Night Live” and may be purchased in advance at Mr. Mike’s Music and Art and B.L. Breggs and Associates in El Dorado or online at Eventbrite.

Tickets will also be available at the door.

• An After-Church Brunch is slated from 1 until 4 p.m. Sunday at B’s Place. The event will include live music. Admission is $10.
