Junction City’s Dhante Gibson announced via Facebook on Tuesday he has committed to play football at Ouachita Baptist University.

The senior running back was recently named 2A Player of the Year by the Little Rock Touchdown Club. He was MVP of the 2A state championship game.

“I chose OBU because of the environment,” Gibson said.

“They have a high graduation rate. They have great coaches. I built a great relationship during the recruiting process with the defensive back coach he’s a great man and I trust him.”

Gibson rushed for 1,742 yards and 24 touchdowns, averaging 7.8 yards per carry. He also has offers from Southern Arkansas University, UA-Monticello and UA-Pine Bluff.

The Tigers plan to use Gibson on defense. He played safety for the state-champion Dragons, finishing with 34 tackles, six tackles for loss, with two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt.“He made a lot of plays on both sides of the ball, especially during the playoff stretch,” Junction City coach Steven Jones said. “He saved his best defense for then in my opinion. He did a good job defending the pass but also being able to come downhill and help out in the running game from his safety spot.”

Gibson said he plans to major in biology. He plans to be ready when he steps onto the Arkadelphia campus.

“Whether I play or redshirt is all on me,” he said. “I got to go in at 110% and work my butt off.”
