Lady Dragons advance to finals

FORDYCE - Junction City’s girls advanced to the championship game of the 2A-8 District Tournament Thursday, pushing past Woodlawn 49-44. The Lady Dragons improved to 16-3 while the Lady Bears slipped to 16-13.

Junction City will play in tonight’s title game at 7 p.m.

Woodlawn took an early lead and held it going into the final period. The Lady Bears were up 15-11 after one quarter, 25-22 at the half and 40-35 going into the fourth.

“Woodlawn played lights out tonight,” said Junction City coach Henry Harrell. “They shot the ball well, made a lot of threes in the first half. We couldn’t seem to find our defense against those 3-pointers. We got some stops down the stretch in the fourth quarter. We missed a lot of free throws but we found a way to win.”

Jada Archie led the Lady Dragons with 17 points. Keyanna Ross and Bryanna Raye chipped in with 10 points apiece. Taykeetria Rogers and Kenslee McLelland contributed seven and five, respectively.
