El Dorado Children's Choir will present the holiday play "Miracles on Main Street" on the Union County Courthouse steps tonight and Saturday at 7 p.m. The event is free to attend.

SATURDAY

Christmas on the Court is slated for 1 p.m. today on the basketball court in the area of Lester and Columbia, behind Arby’s Restaurant. Youth members of Meet Me at the Court will distribute canned goods and other food items during the event. The event is free and open to the public. Santa is expected to arrive on a fire truck to hand out presents to children who are in attendance. Santa will be available for free photos as well. He also will join members of the Meet Me at the Court Youth Choir for Christmas carols. The choir is open to any child who would like to join. A chili cook-off is also slated for the day. Chili that is entered into the cook-off must be prepared off-site and ready for judging at the start of the event. Trophies will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners. Attendees also are invited to help decorate “Sharion’s Angel Tree.”

HOPE Landing invites the community to its annual Christmas on the Ranch and SCA Sanctioned Steak Cook-off to share the spirit of Christmas with the children, families, staff and Board of HOPE Landing. Located on the property of HOPE Landing at 214 Hope Landing (five miles east of El Dorado on Hwy 82 East), the event will take place today from 3-5 p.m. Children of all ages and their families can enjoy the scenery of the ranch and listen to live music as they visit Santa at the Santa Claus Cottage; make crafts at Santa’s Workshop, play games; pet and read Christmas stories to Santa’s reindeer at the Reindeer Barn; and enjoy a “sleigh ride” while sipping on warm cocoa at the Reindeer Crossing. Crafts made by the children of HOPE Landing will also be available for purchase.

Back for the second year will be a steak cook-off and ancillary dessert cook-off. With two separate competitions, grillers have the opportunity to double their prizes and points. Sanctioned by the Steak Cookoff Association, competitors have the chance to compete for points towards the SCA World Championship in Fort Worth.

Tickets will be available for purchase of steak plates prior to the event for $20 and include a ribeye, baked potato salad, roll and a Christmas cookie. Proceeds from the steak plates benefit HOPE Landing. Plates will be ready for pick-up at 5 p.m. For more information, contact HOPE Landing at 870-862-0500.

The Boomtown Opry's Christmas Show is tonight at 7 p.m. at the El Dorado Municipal Auditorium. Tickets cost $15 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under, and free for children 5 and under.

SUNDAY

The VFW Post 2413 will host its annual Christmas dinner today at 1 p.m., at 451 Industrial Road. All members and guests are invited to attend.
