The Salvation Army received 45 hams to help feed community members at the South West location Tuesday morning.

Hormel Foods Corporation and Brookshire Grocery Co. partnered to donate the Hormel Cure 81 hams. The two donated $100,000 worth of hams to food banks and food pantries where Brookshire's, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market and FRESH by Brookshire's are located, according to a press release.

"It's an honor two serve the community and help those in need," said John Tomanio, the South West Avenue Brookshire's director.

Tomanio and North West director Brady Stribling presented the hams to Salvation Army Captain Jason Perdieu.

Perdieu said the hams will go to the first 45 seniors on the senior angel food box list. Other dinner boxes will have different meats.

"It helps us ensure that they're going to have a nice meal in their home that they can cook," Perdieu said. "We're just appreciative that Brookshire's helps to provide and help those in need."

Brookshire's is also hosting the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive where customers can purchase "grab bags" for $5 or scan coupons for $1 or $5 to purchase additional food items, according to a press release.
