Smackover rolls past Genoa Central 12-0

SMACKOVER – Abbi Crawford pitched a shutout and homered twice Wednesday as Smackover bombed Genoa Central 12-0. The Lady Bucks improved to 18-2 overall and 8-1 in conference.

Crawford spun a four-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking one in five innings. She also went 2-for-3 with two homers and three RBI. Lydia Pullin chimed in with six RBI, including a three-run homer, and 3-for-4 batting at the plate.

“I thought this was Abbi’s best game pitching. She was in command the whole game,” said Smackover coach Dennis Steele. “And, what can you say about the hitting of Abbi and (Lydia) Pullin? They hit the ball hard almost every time up. Those two homers were bombs and Lydia’s too.”

Smackover scored two in the first when Malorie Pullin singled and scored on Crawford’s two-run blast. The Lady Bucks added two in the second when Karis Robinson walked and Mackenzie Preston doubled before Lydia Pullin drove in two with a double.

Smackover struck again with four in the fourth. Singles by Vanessa Lofton and Preston set the table for Lydia Pullin, who drove in a run with a base hit. Karli Goocher and Malorie Pullin both singled in a run before Crawford, later, added a solo shot, her ninth home run of the season.

In the fifth, Lofton triggered a two-out rally with a single. After Preston walked, Lydia Pullin crushed a three-run homer, which ended the game.

Malorie Pullin was 3-for-3 with Lofton and Preston adding two hits apiece.

Defensively, Genoa got two runners on in the first before Crawford worked out of it with a strikeout. Goocher cut down two runners trying to steal second in the third inning.

“Both of those throws were lasers and Megan Mullin made two great tag outs,” said Steele.

Smackover hosts El Dorado on Thursday, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
