Smackover downed by Ashdown 12-4

SMACKOVER – Failing to hang on to leads has become a troubling trend of late for Smackover.

Last Friday, the Bucks led Genoa Central 5-1 before falling to the Dragons 7-6.

On Tuesday, Smackover saw a 4-1 lead evaporate in a 12-4 loss to Ashdown in 7-3A play.

The Bucks scored two runs in the first and third innings to take the aforementioned 4-1 edge, but the visitors scored seven two-out runs in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Jacob Eubanks was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Braden Doherty also went 2-for-3 for the Bucks.

Baylor Brumley was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Dawson Biggers finished 1-for-4.

Josh Saulsbury took the loss after working 3 2/3 innings. He allowed seven hits and seven runs, but none of the runs were earned. He walked four and struck out four.

Rhett Richardson allowed five runs (three earned) in 1 2/3 innings in relief. He allowed four hits, walked one and didn’t record any strikeouts. Chase Brumley had a scoreless outing by working 2/3 of an inning, and Baylor Brumley pitched a scoreless inning as well.

Smackover (6-15, 3-6) played at Junction City Wednesday, and the Bucks host Prescott in a critical 7-3A showdown Friday.
