El Dorado competes at Coca-Cola Relays

NASHVILLE – Breya Clark led El Dorado’s girls in the Coca-Cola Relays Tuesday night. The Lady Wildcats finished sixth in the prestigious meet, which was won by Texarkana with 114 points. Magnolia (89.5), Broken Bow (85), Lake Hamilton (78), DeQueen (73) and El Dorado (62) were next in line.

Clark, a senior, uncorked the longest triple jump in the state this season at 38 feet, 10 inches, according to Coach John Koonce. She also won the high jump, clearing 5-4 and was first in the 100 hurdles, posting a 15.50.

“She came to the triple jump after completing the high jump. Her first jump was nearly 38 feet,” Koonce said.

“Her second jump was perfect until the end. She hit the board. Her first two phases were great but she bailed out at the end. That jump was mid-37. On the last jump, she jumped about a foot-and-a-half before the board but everything else was perfect. Coach Cunningham and I knew as soon as she hit the pit that it was a special jump. If she had hit the board, it may have measured over 40.”

LaDiamond Maker was third in the 200 and sixth in the 100. Gabrielle Cook was fifth in the 300 hurdles, seventh in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump. Breyonna Steward was seventh in the 400. Tajah Edmondson was eighth in the 100 and Talia Holmes was eighth in the 400.

El Dorado’s boys finished 10th.

Caleb Scott led the Wildcats, scoring third in the long jump, fifth in the triple jump and seventh in the 300 hurdles. Gavin Heustis was fifth in the discus. Davonte Yarbrough was eighth in the 400.
